Metra is a famous commuter rail agency serving several counties in the Chicago area. It was established in 1984 and is partially funded by public organizations. At present time, it services more than 239 stations on 11 lines. All Metra trains allow smoking, food and alcohol. Animals are prohibited expect for those assisting the disabled. Free parking is available at most stations on a monthly or daily basis. Metra operates a distance tariff system which includes twelve zones of the tariff in a range from $ 2.25 to the nearest zones to $ 8.50 of the farthest zones.
