I got on the 6:10 UP West line train 15 minutes early today and got my seat in the quiet car. 5 minutes before departure, the conductor told everyone in the car to get up and move back. “Not to the back half of the car, but a whole car back”. A passenger asked why and the conductor screamed at him “because its the rules!”
As we all moved back, there were no remaining seats on the rest of the train and riders were crammed in the aisles.
Once the train doors shut we were told to move up and use all cars.
Not only did several riders who arrived early lose their seats, but the attitude from the conductor was completely unnecessary.
Ive rideb Metra 5 days a week for several years (though usually not the 6:10) and the stafd has never been as rude to riders as they have been in recent weeks.
